Cubs activate Patrick Wisdom off IL, place Nick Madrigal on 10-day IL |
CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today activated infielder Patrick Wisdom off the 10-day injured list and placed infielder Nick Madrigal on the 10-day injured list with a right groin strain.
Wisdom, 31, landed on the 10-day injured list with a sprained left ring finger on August 27 (retroactive to August 26). The right-handed hitting infielder is batting .217 (89-for-411) with 25 doubles, 22 home runs and 58 RBI in 117 games for the Cubs this season. His 22 home runs and 51 walks both lead the team, while his 58 RBI and 25 doubles rank second. Wisdom has reached the 20-homer mark in two-straight seasons, becoming the fifth Cubs third baseman with multiple 20-homer campaigns. A Murrieta, Calif., native, Wisdom is in his third season with the Cubs after he signed a minor league contract with the club in August of 2020. In 266 career major league games between St. Louis (2018), Texas (2019) and the Cubs (2020-22), Wisdom is 184-for-827 (.222) with 40 doubles, 54 home runs and 130 RBI, contributing to a .774 OPS. He was selected in the first round (52nd overall) of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft by the Cardinals out of St. Mary’s College in California. Madrigal, 25, is batting .249 (52-for-209) with seven doubles and seven RBI in 59 games for the Cubs this season. In his last 28 games since August 4, he is 28-for-101 (.277) with four doubles, five RBI, nine walks and a .348 OBP.
