ATLANTA, Ga. – The Chicago Cubs today placed right-handed pitcher Adbert Alzolay on the 15-day injured list with a right forearm strain and recalled right-handed pitcher José Cuas from Triple-A Iowa.

Cuas, 29, has appeared in six games out of the bullpen for Chicago this season, posting a 9.00 ERA (8 ER/8.0 IP). He was recalled from Iowa on Saturday and pitched 2.0 scoreless innings in Pittsburgh, prior to being optioned back to the I-Cubs yesterday. In six relief appearances this season with Iowa, Cuas has posted a 4.32 ERA (4 ER/8.1 IP) and struck out 17 batters, good for a 45.9% strikeout rate. He has struck out 11 batters in 4.1 IP in his last three outings, including striking out the side May 5 vs. Omaha.

A Santo Domingo, D.R., native, Cuas was acquired by the Cubs from Kansas City July 31, 2023 for outfielder Nelson Velázquez. In parts of three major league seasons with the Royals (2022-23) and Cubs (2023-24), Cuas is 7-4 with a 4.22 ERA (52 ER/111.0 IP) in 125 games (two starts). The righthander attended the University of Maryland and was selected by Milwaukee in the 11th round of the 2015 draft.

Alzolay, 29, is 1-4 with a 4.67 ERA (9 ER/17.1 IP) and four saves in 18 games in relief for Chicago this season.

The Cubs play the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park today at 6:20 p.m. CT in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 The Score.
