Cubs make several roster moves |
The Chicago Cubs optioned reliever Cory Mazzoni to Triple-A Iowa and called up Anthony Bass on Monday in advance of the important series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
In other roster news, the Cubs moved reliever Eddie Butler to the 60-day DL with his right groin strain to make room for Bass on the 40 man roster. Butler has been out of action since April 19 and hopefully he will back at some point this season. Butler has a 4.30 ERA (7 ER/14.2 IP) in six relief appearances for Chicago this season. Bass has a 0-1 record with 2.28 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 20 strikeouts with six walks in 23.2 innings (18 appearances) this season at Triple-A Iowa. Mazzoni has pitched in 7.2 innings (7 appearances) giving up only five hits for a 1.17 ERA and 1.30 WHIP during his short stint for the Cubs. He had three appearances in the last week including taking the loss to the Pirates on Sunday so it was time for the Cubs to get a fresh bullpen arm for this important stretch of rivalry games. The #Cubs today selected the contract of RHP Anthony Bass from @IowaCubs. RHP Cory Mazzoni was optioned to Triple-A.
