DENVER – The Chicago Cubs today placed right-handed pitcher Eddie Butler on the 10-day disabled list with a right groin strain and recalled right-handed pitcher Luke Farrell from Triple-A Iowa.

Farrell, who will wear uniform number 59, will be available for the Cubs tonight when they begin their series against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.

The 26-year-old Farrell has made two starts for Iowa this season, going 0-1 with a 5.91 ERA (7 ER/10.2 IP). He made his major league debut last season with Kansas City before joining Cincinnati in August, combining to post no record with a 5.54 ERA (8 ER/13.0 IP) in 10 appearances (one start) between the two stops. Farrell turned in a 2.61 ERA (3 ER/10.1 IP) in nine relief outings upon joining the Reds last year.

In 2017, Farrell went 8-6 with a 4.78 ERA (62 ER/116.2 IP) in 22 appearances, all but two as a starter, between the Royals, Dodgers and Reds Triple-A affiliates last season. Overall, Farrell is 25-29 with three saves and a 4.46 ERA (253 ER/511.0 IP) in 106 career minor league appearances, 86 as a starter.

Farrell is a native of Westlake, Ohio and was originally selected by the Royals in the sixth round of the 2013 Draft out of Northwestern University. He is the son of former major league manager John Farrell and the brother of Jeremy, the Cubs minor league infield coordinator, and Shane, a regional crosschecker for the Cubs.

Butler, 27, is 0-1 with a 4.30 ERA (7 ER/14.2 IP) in seven relief outings for the Cubs this season.
