Pedro Strop apologizes after breaking COVID-19 protocols in camp

Cubs reliever Pedro Strop has re-joined the Cubs after isolating after breaking COVID-19 protocols.

Strop spoke with the media Thursday and was very remorseful for making a mistake going out with Cleveland's Franmil Reyes and Jose Ramirez.

"I made a mistake," Strop said. "I want to take the chance to apologize. The rules are there for a reason. I didn't mean to expose my teammates, my family, and others to COVID. I really apologize."

Strop won't make the same mistake twice.

“I promise that it’s not going to happen again,” he added. “I always want to do things right. I made a mistake. I feel bad. It’s time to move on and think about baseball again and try to not make the same mistake ever again.”

Strop tested negative and it actually is a good reminder for all the players to take COVID-19 seriously despite the vaccines becoming available across the country.

“I think the reminder here for me is just talking about staying diligent,” Cubs manager David Ross said Monday. “It’s easy to let down our guard. It’s a good reminder for us all to continue to follow the protocols. Things are moving in the right direction. Let’s just not speed things up and continue to follow the rules and do what’s asked of us.”
