Willson Contreras injury update |
Starting All-Star catcher Willson Contreras is currently on the injured list with a grade 2 hamstring injury. ESPN is reporting that Contreras will be likely out for four weeks after a scheduled MRI reading on Monday.
We will have more detailed information tonight once Joe Maddon speaks with the media. The Cubs will hopefully have Contreras back for the crucial September push for the playoffs and have him ready to roll. Contreras, 27, is batting .275 (81-for-295) with 15 doubles, 19 homers, and 57 RBI in 87 games with the Cubs this year. Backup catchers Victor Caratini and Taylor Davis will now step to the forefront for the first-place Cubs. Martin Maldonaldo was traded away so the Cubs will be a little thin at the catcher position for the next few weeks unless they make a move on the minor league level. Grade two strain for Contreras. “I’m going to take it slow.”
