Craig Kimbrel on his health, 2020 outlook

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs closer Craig Kimbrel had a disaster of a season last year, compiling a 0-4 record with a 6.53 ERA and high 1.60 WHIP.

It certainly wasn't up to his normal standard.

Kimbrel will have a full spring training to get ready and is excited to see things play out much better in 2020.

"I got to focus on doing my job and doing all the small things to get where I need to be to compete at the level I expect myself to compete at," he said to the media on Thursday. "So far, everything has started off pretty well."

The seven-time All-Star wants to be healthy and be the best version of himself this season.

"I kind of knew what I was going through as I had my ups and downs of last year," Kimbrel said. "I knew at the time what I was struggling with and what I wasn't getting to. It's right now just putting that all together and making sure I'm on top of things, keeping my body healthy, and be the best me that I can be on the field.

For his career, he has a sparkling 2.08 ERA with 346 saves, 898 strikeouts, and a low 0.95 WHIP.
