Former Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell played in South Korea in the KBO league on a one-year, $530,000 contract last season.
In 2021, he is back in North America, giving it another go playing baseball professionally but not in the major leagues. Russell has signed with the Steelers of the top professional league in Mexico called the 'Acereros de Monclova.' He is still just 27 years old and one of the bigger name signing for the league in recent memory. For his MLB career, Russell hit .242 with 60 homers and 253 RBI. His best season came in the Cubs' title season as he hit 21 homers and had 95 RBIs. Russell was cut from the Cubs in December of 2019 after the club declined to offer him a new contract. He was banned 40 games at the start of the 2019 season after domestic violence allegations with his ex-wife Melisa Reidy.
