Jason Heyward sent to the hospital after being light-headed

by - Senior Writer -

CHICAGO — Chicago Cubs right fielder Jason Heyward left Sunday's game versus the St. Louis Cardinals because he was feeling under the weather. Heyward was pulled between the fourth and fifth innings, and Cameron Maybin took over for him in right.

Following the Cubs' 7-3 loss at Wrigley Field, Cubs manager David Ross updated the media on Heyward's status. Ross revealed that Heyward was feeling lightheaded and experiencing shortness of breath.

“He’s not a guy that you ever have concerns about,” he said during postgame. “So, when he says he’s having trouble breathing and is lightheaded, I just want to make sure everything’s alright.”

As a result, Heyward was sent to a local hospital for evaluation.

Heyward's final plate appearance before he departed the matchup was a fourth-inning strikeout. The incredibly windy conditions in the early goings of Sunday's contest might have contributed to Heyward taking ill. More information regarding Heyward's condition will be known on Monday. In the meantime, the Cubs will err on the side of caution with Heyward, which is smart during these strange, difficult times.
