The Chicago Cubs announced on Thursday that 31-year-old starting pitcher Jose Quintana was placed on the 10-day injured list to start the season.
This was expected as Quintana sliced his pitching thumb while doing dishes last month. In 2019, Quintana had a record of 13-9 with a 4.68 ERA, 152 strikeouts, and 1.39 WHIP. In more surprising news, the Cubs also placed veteran infielder Daniel Descalso on the 45-day injured list with a sprained left ankle. He injured his ankle during Wednesday night's exhibition win against the Minnesota Twins. In other roster news, Cubs outfielder Mark Zagunis has decided to opt-out this season because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
