by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs are beginning to see their roster return to full strength as they go on their final road trip before the All-Star break.

On Tuesday, manager Craig Counsell provided several injury updates.

Reliever Julian Merryweather is scheduled to pitch tonight in a rehab appearance for Triple-A Iowa.

For the season, Merryweather has a 1.93 ERA with six strikeouts and two walks in four appearances.

Meanwhile, Caleb Kilian will take the mound for South Bend as he continues his own rehab stint.

Kilian was placed on the 60-day Il on March 28.

Additionally, starter Javier Assad will throw a bullpen session today as he works his way back from a forearm injury.

The Cubs placed Assad on the IL on June 27 after he felt discomfort pitching on June 26.

Assad has a 3.04 ERA with 79 strikeouts and 33 walks in 16 starts this season.
