PHILADELPHIA – The Chicago Cubs today placed outfielder Jason Heyward on the seven-day concussion injured list (retroactive to September 12) and selected outfielder Trayce Thompson from Triple-A Iowa. To make room for Thompson on the 40-man roster, outfielder Michael Hermosillo has been transferred to the 60-day injured list.

Thompson will wear uniform number 43 and is available for tonight’s 7:05 p.m. ET game against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

Thompson, 30, was acquired by Chicago from Arizona on May 11 for a cash consideration and in 98 games for Iowa has hit .233 (71-for-305) with 14 doubles, one triple, 21 home runs, 63 RBI, 45 walks and a .344 on-base percentage. The right-handed hitter has batted .294 (10-for-34) with two doubles, five home runs and 17 RBI in 10 September contests.

Thompson last appeared in the majors with the White Sox in 2018 and in 202 career major league contests with the White Sox (2015, 2018), Dodgers (2016-17) and Athletics (2018) he has batted .206 (110-for-535) with 24 doubles, four triples, 22 home runs and 59 RBI. His most extensive playing time came in 2016 with the Dodgers, a season in which Thompson hit .225 (53-for-236) with 11 doubles, 13 home runs and 32 RBI in 80 games.

Heyward, 32, is hitting .214 (69-for-323) with 15 doubles, two triples, eight home runs and 30 RBI in 104 games for Chicago this season.

Hermosillo, 26, landed on the 10-day injured list with a left forearm strain on September 8. He hit .194 (7-for-36) with two doubles, three home runs and seven RBI in 16 games for the Cubs this season.
