Cubs reportedly down to two managerial candidates

by - Senior Editor -

Theo Epstein has almost finished his due diligence for his manager in 2020.

The Chicago Cubs are reportedly down to two managerial candidates, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Special assistant to the Cubs front office David Ross and Astros bench coach Joe Espada are the front-runners according to the report.

The Cubs have reportedly interviewed six candidates in total with Will Venable, Mark Loretta, David Ross, Joe Girardi, Joe Espada, and Gabe Kapler.

Don't be surprised if the Cubs announce in the next few days for Ross to get a head start before the World Series finishes and free agency begins. If they decide to go the Espada route, they will have to wait until after the World Series if the Astros make it to the October Classic.

Regardless who they choose, it should be an interesting offseason on the North Side.
