DES MOINES, Iowa — Chicago Cubs center fielder Albert Almora Jr. addressed the media at Principal Park on Tuesday. A few games into his tenure with the Triple-A Iowa Cubs, Almora discussed his reaction to being sent down last week. Maintaining a positive vibe throughout the press session, Almora made it clear that he is fully committed to being a valuable member of the Iowa club for as long as he with the team.
"I could've been bitter, taken my three days, shown up to Iowa and coasted through things," Almora said when talking about being demoted. "Or I could've come with a purpose. I wanted to come down and get to work." Almora was demoted to the minor leagues in order to make room on the Cubs' active roster for second baseman Addison Russell, who was called up from Iowa. Since Almora has not been consistently effective at the plate since the All-Star break, the Triple-A stint ahead of the Sept. 1 roster expansion is intended to give him an opportunity to get back in a groove by the end of August, which Almora is hoping to follow through on. "I'm excited," said Almora. "I'm in a really good place, and I just want to win ballgames, man." This is the right attitude after a demotion. @albertalmora gets it.#Cubs
