Report: Travis Wood signs with AL team |
Former Chicago Cubs reliever Travis Wood has agreed to a two-year contract with the Kansas City Royals on Monday according to multiple reports.
The Cubs had made him an offer but a two-year contract with the opportunity to possibly win the fifth starter spot was too much for Wood to pass up. Wood will join former Cubs outfielder Jorge Soler and starting pitcher Jason Hammel in Kansas City. The Cubs will face off against the Royals on March 1 in the Cactus league. In 2016, Wood had a 4-0 record with a 2.95 ERA with 47 strikeouts and a 1.13 WHIP in the regular season. During the postseason, he was 1-0 with a save, two holds and a 3.12 ERA. He was also versatile as a pinch hitter, pinch runner and can be used as a defensive replacement in left field.
